    REI underquilt

Here are the specs for an underquilt REI is selling. Any opinions on it?
I have a dividend that will just about cover the cost so it might be nice to go that way if it's good quality and useful.
In thickness how does it compare with a poncho liner which is what I've been trying to make work?

    Some specs
2 layers of 80g synthetic insulation on bottom are offset-quilted to prevent cold spots that result in heat loss
Lighter insulation on sides boosts coziness
Shock-corded corner attachments make setup quick and easy
2 midpoint toggle connections secure underquilt to corresponding loops in the REI Co-op Quarterdome Air Hammock (sold separately)
Internal drawcords cinch underquilt tight to the ends of the hammock

    Unfolded Dimensions
    85 x 51 inches
    Folded Dimensions
    12 x 7 inches
    Material(s)
    Ripstop nylon
    Weight
    26 ounces

I'll post a link in the comments (just in case that's not allowed)

I have only used it on the Quarter Dome Air Hammock and it works great. Fits perfect and easy to attach without really having to adjust it. The 30 degree rating may be a bit optimistic. I have used it in about 35 degree weather and my back started to feel cool, not cold.

It says 'designed for the quarter dome hammock' so if you're not using that, I would be skeptical. It certainly looks like its not more than a 45 degree UQ, and I'd be a little worried about how the insulation maps to you in a gathered end hammock, as it seems to be mapped to how you lie in a straight line in a bridge.

If you do have the quarter dome, great. You can always supplement with a pad. If you have another bridge, worth a shot and can return it if it doesn't quite fit. Otherwise, I doubt it will do you any good and would be lucky to sell it for half the bargain price.

I'd recommend first going with a down quilt but if that's not in the budget I'd recommend the ArrowHead Jarbidge and save your dividend for better stuff.

I have one just to have an inexpensive synthetic quilt for summer use in more humid environments. (I honestly just have an addiction to quilts, though most of mine are cottage vendor produced).

I bought some Triangle Thingies from arrowhead-equipment.com to adapt this to my gathered end hammocks (as I'm not much of a DIYer). I didn't have any issues. No cold spots or anything, but I've only used it fairly warm temps (probably 50s/low 60s), so I haven't pushed it very far (nor do I intend to).

At the end of the day it's a rectangle synthetic quilt with attachment points that are specific to the REI quarterdome air but can be adapted for other hammocks if needed; It really depends on what hammock you're using and how cold you'll be going as to whether this is worth looking at. Spending a little more $$ with a cottage vendor could easily yield something that can handle colder temps and provide a better experience overall.

    as others have posted
arrowhead equipment synthetic underquilt would be a better buy in my opinion
be aware that synthetic quilts will pack much much bigger then a down quilt will
as for a economy down underquilt i would recommend hammock gear enco series 40* incubator for $120ish and a 3/4 phoenix for $90ish

    REI underquilt

I would recommend against the rei underquilt. its heavier and probably bulkier than any comparable option from hammock gear, and you're not really saving much money. buy once cry once! tons of hangers will vouch for hammock gear products and their success stories.

I bought one last year from REI Garage. I got the hammock and the underquilt. They are an excellent pair for most situations but I have a Jacks or Better for really cold weather.
