Spring in the southern White Mountains.

It's been more years than I care to think about since I've gone backpacking. My camping has been out of a car, kayak or glamping in a trailer. This year I want to get back into backpacking and have been doing some research. I'm thinking about hiking the Sawyer Pond Trail to the pond for an overnight hang. It's about five miles and looks to be relatively flat. There is a primitive camping area near the pond.

It seems my lack of experience has exposed a serious flaw in my plan: Mud season. When does mud season typically start and end in the Whites? It sounds pretty miserable.

It really varies, but there is usually a pretty good snow cover up until at least Mid may and I have had snow on Memorial Day weekend too lots of times. When were you thinking of going? Are you looking for company?

You're always welcome to join me, my friend. I was thinking about May or June but really haven't done any solid planning other than in the White Mountain Guide.

When you are ready to go, you could post it here, and someone here might let you know what the conditions are.
