Cant believe i waited so long to try a wide width hammock!!!

Im 6'2" tall, 310lbs(down from 370lbs) Decided I wanted to try a lighter material hammock. Been using 2.4 Hexon for years and wanted some 1.6 to try out. So I head over to Dutch to order some and I come across this: https://dutchwaregear.com/product/wi...less-hexon-17/

I haven't used a Wide hammock in years, but I figured what the hell. The material alone would of cost $28, for another $2 it comes already sewn.

I received it yesterday, put it together and slept on it last night. I'm am absolutely shocked at how much more comfortable I was. I used to have a 10' super wide hammock that was ok. But I hated all the extra material that was flopping around in my face. Been sleeping on standard width 11' hammocks since.

Never realized how much my knees were hyperextending. To get the right angle my feet went high on the side of the standard width hammock, creating a small gap behind my knees. The extra width of the new hammock totally alleviated this. Theres still a little extra material flopping around, but at least its not in my face. The extra comfort would make it ok even it was. lol.
My worst night in a hammock was still better than my best night in a tent!!!!

Yep, these wide hammocks allow you to get even more of a diagonal which makes for a very comfortable lay. Congrats on the weight loss.

When RSBTR had a sale on the HyperD XL, I bought enough to make a 12 footer, it's 6' wide. It eats up a lot of real estate but man is it comfortable.

thank you. 60 more to go.

I'm still pretty much the same diagonal, just laying much flatter. Mainly cause my feet don't ride so high on the side. Makes a big difference. Maybe I was trying to get to much angle on the standard width. Its only been 1 night, but im pretty sure im a wide hammock guy from now on.

I'm 5 foot even and I prefer a wide hammock. my dream hammock sparrow and dangerbird are both made out of the hyperD XL and made as wide as possible. I have a hammock made by simply light designs that is 60" wide and it's just not as comfortable to me, all my hammocks is 11' long.

Funny... I had a different experience.

I made a standard width Hyper D hammock (with fully removable bug net) a few years ago.. I think finished width is 58" and have always loved it. Last year I made another in Robic XL with a finished width of 60" and that extra material annoys me to no end.. Even with the Knotty Mod at both sides of the foot end, there is fabric hanging in my face...

I am making another Hyper D netless and it will be standard width..
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

How did you close out the GEs? Are you using EVO loops here or something else?

I wouldn't think 2" would make that much of a difference

I'm wondering if the difference in material is more what you're noticing, rather than the width

2.4 is pretty firm compared to 1.6 or 1.7

No science to back it.. just the level of frustration with one hammock versus the other.
