    Hello from Central FL

Good morning all from the wet wild world of Central FL!
Just moved here with the family to work at an awesome youth outreach camp outside of Ocala, FL. This is my first time living anywhere SE of Chicago to Denver to Santa Fe so quite the transition! Grew up in Chicago and moved to Denver to continue college. After ~10 years, transferred to San Francisco Bay area, then transferred back to Chicago when we had our first child. Changed jobs so moved to the mountains above New Mexico, and finally landed here.
New to hammocking and regretting that it took me this long to discover the joys of hanging! I've been ultralight backpacking for ~5 years now so will always be looking for fun ways to make things light. Generally excited about exploring new areas and discovering interesting environments. I LOVE fly fishing and have generally been a wild mountain trout chaser. Gonna have to learn a new way here as there ain't no mountains OR trout close by.
There's probably somewhere else to check this (which I will eventually) but just wanted to say if there any group hangs or fly fisherman in the area, shoot me a PM! I'd love to get to know some people and find some camping/fishing buddies.

Welcome to Central Florida, from Volusia.

We have a lot of Florida Hangs through out the hanging season ranging from North Florida down to Lake Wales Ridge State Forest near FrostProof. Also, this is home to HangCon and it will be in Ocala for HangCon 2020 in January.

Then some of us will also hang in Summer.

Watch out for the No UnderQuilt Hang in July and Summer's Last Gasp Hang in September both in Ocala at Hidden Pond on the Florida Trail.

By the way, since you like hiking, the Florida Trail is the 3rd longest marked trail in the US. And all in one state.

Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

You did make quite a move, didn't you? Welcome to the forums from one of the states on your northern border.
    "...the height of hammock snobbery!"

Thanks Floridahanger! We're in temporary housing in Ocklawaha currently but will be in Ocala permanently. Glad to hear there is a lot of hanging activity right in my backyard! I'll def keep an eye out for events and make it a point to get to them. I actually have another big "convention" in Jan 2020 already so I hope the two don't conflict.

I've definitely become award of the Florida Trail and want to start exploring it. I've done some hiking on the CDT, PCT and similar trails so this will be VERY different.

Unlike the CDT & PCT, the Florida trail is best hiked in the winter. The 70 mile stretch running through the Ocala National Forest is some of the best of what the trail has to offer.
