Hi, y'all. My name is Earl and I'm just at the entry level of hammock camping. It was suggested to me from a fellow Scouter to try using a hammock for camping; he got tired of me complaining that the ground was too hard and a cot/air mattress set-up wasn't hard enough (I'm over 60, I can complain if I want ). The other alternative that I had was to get a camping trailer or a RV but SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) shot that idea down without a second thought.

When the weather breaks, I've been invited to go hammock camping with him and his Troop of Scouts (I should say MY Troop cuz it was my Troop about 20 years ago).

Hi Earl,
Everybody must, by definition, start at the entry level of hammock camping. It's a fun place to be and I'm still trying to stay there because the learning never stops: gathered end, bridge, whoopie slings, becket hitch, and let's not get started on quilts and pads. Welcome to the madness.
