    I've tried that.. problem is it is only a one way trip. Since you can't fit them in your pack or under the tarp, you have to either deflate them or jettison them once you get to camp.
    Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

    You could always bring some extra amsteel or paracord and tether it. Plus you won't have to bother with throwing your bag up on a branch to hide it from the bears.

    An ideal system perhaps for the Great Plains Trail when it opens.

    But hammocks love trees and helium balloons abhor them. Makes for a rough combo.

    Fair enough. I don't suppose some of the cottage vendors could figure out a way to make airtight weather balloons from dyneema....

    And helium is getting harder and harder to get. I spend more time backpacking and less time scuba diving because of the helium shortage (at least around NC).
