    Not a Gear Hammock.
Hi shug I am not sure who you are talking to.
My suggestion was to not buy the dreamhammock gear sling but buy the dreamhammock chair instead. Is a dreamhammock gear sling strong enough to use as a chair?

Also has some vendor claimed the name gear hammock? It's not a generic name?

Gear slings never even enter my mind as an addition to my gear. I am weight conscious, and a gear sling just sounds like more weight to me. I also find UQPs, or undercovers, to be just added weight.

It's so easy to hang your pack on the ridgeline, and everything is accessible.

Right, for gram weenies, they probably wouldn't like the weight of a gear sling, and they probably also chop their toothbrushes in half and cut the straps off of their back packs. For the car camping crowd though, I always use a gear sling. Caveat...I am a rookie hiker...7-10 mile hike is where I usually call it a day. One day maybe I will be a long distance hiker but for me, the gear sling was a great addition to my gear, and especially as someone that uses a CPAP machine (decidedly not light weight)!

All the posters that mention a gear hammock as the OP was asking in particular about the DH Gear Sling. The OP refers to hanging off a hammock ridgeline in particular. But the Gear Sling can also hang like a small bag off of the hammock suspension.
Not sure he mentioned sitting in it.
I was just trying to keep it on his question.
    That is all.

HaHa shows how informed I am with vendors offerings these days.
I always thought they called those things at the end of the gathered end a peak bag. This must be a peak shelf.

OK sorry OP I misunderstood your question.
My only experience with peak bags is they are always to far up for me to reach anything out of them. I'm a short guys in an 11 foot hammock.

Im going to order a couple gear slings. I like the thought of one in "monolite" so I can see into bag.
Other than moisture, why shouldn't I get one in monolite?

    Thank you for replies.

What are the moisture issues with Monolite? I was also considering a Monolite gear sling down the line.

This fabric has dwr treatment, but a very open weave. It probably wouldn't be the best choice for hanging stuff outside your hammock where dew and moisture could penetrate the fabric. Inside the hammock or in dry conditions, I see no drawbacks.
