    total weight

so I went into my local outdoors shop and looked at the ENO single one link hammock system. I picked it up and figured it would be a lot lighter than it was. I told him it felt heavy. He said it was about 4 pounds total with all the straps, bug net tarp clips and everything. My two person tent weights that much. So my question is, Does everyones setup weight this much? If not what is your weight. I figured full total was about 2 pounds.

No clue on the weight of mine but I know my Gear Guide tarp is about 2lbs. I picked up some light weight stakes and guylines to lighten it up a bit. But I would say, my whole sleep system / shelter is around the 5 pounds area.

That sounds kind of heavier than I would expect. I don't have an ENO (how has that happened ). But I have a Treklite double, which I have heard is very similar to an ENO double. It weighs 24 oz with stuff sack, but no suspension ropes. Some Amsteel and huggers could only add a few oz, still WAY short of 4 lbs. I also have a similar style Claytor No Net double LAYER, and with the stock suspension, it weighs ~22 oz. Even my huge HH Safari (No Net) only weighs a little over 2 lbs, including thick suspension ropes, but without a few oz more for huggers. I have several other hammocks, including a dbl layer JRB BMBH with spreader bars and full suspension ( tad over 2 lbs) and nothing approaches 4 lbs, unless you start counting tarps and maybe insulation. I'll be very surprised if that ENO single, hammock and suspension, weighs a bit over 20 oz.

best check and see if it really includes a tap, guylines, stakes, bug net and all- (ask the guy if you can set up in one of the aisles), seems to me for a complete shelter to keep you high, dry, and unbitten; 4 lbs is not terrible; but it could be lightened some with informed choices of various parts.
The real question is- will it work with your style of camping/hiking, and will a good night's sleep be worth the extra ounces? only you can say for sure.
    Hope this helps somewhat, KM

avoid the ENO tarps if at all possible. They weigh a ton and don't provide good coverage. They do look rather cool but at what cost in function?

Overall, you're probably not going to save a lot of weight just by using a hammock over a tent, you can, if that's your goal, but it's not usually the biggest motivation.

I think most of the threads discussing weight end up with the lightest FULL tent setups being just slightly under the weight of a FULL lightweight hammock setup, maybe by a few ounces. Of course, you can always get lighter by just using a tarp ... yada yada yada

I find that the hammocks I use are generally a little less bulky than most comparable tents, but the weight is about the same.

However, for me, the comfort of a hammock makes it no contest.

    YMMV.
