Outdoor Vitals bugnet/summer sock

I just bought one of these (11' version) via Amazon. Before it arrived, I had some reservations because it didn't appear to be deep enough to accommodate a hammock with structural ridge line and a decent sag plus underquilt. Especially with a 11' hammock, since the ridge line is going to be significantly higher than with a shorter hammock.

Turns out there is no problem there, but there is a big problem that I didn't anticipate. You have to pull the bugnet up over your head past the end of the hammock to tighten the draw string, and there is no way that I can reach that. I tried sliding way up in the hammock but still couldn't reach it. So, in the middle of the night, when you are sleepy and have on thick clothes, this is not going to be a fun experience.

I like the idea of this kind of net/sock, but just can't have that, so I'm looking for suggestions before I pack this thing up and send it back. Anyone else using this or the Dutch version in a 11' hammock?

I'm a big fan of the bottom-entry Fronkey bugnet - easy to get in and out of.

Install a zipper. I can't believe the only way in or out is to retract it to one end. If you can't instll a zipper send it to someone that can.

Go Dutch first, always. LOL!

Most of our cottage vendors offer a bottom entry bugnet. SLD’s looks nice since it has both a bottom entry with shockcord closure, and a large opening on one end that closes with a drawcord to easily slide over your UQ

I feel your pain. One cottage vendor had kind of a net/shield that worked the same way. But the adjustment was at the very end of the GE hammock - way out of my reach. Hope you get it worked out.

What a dismal design. Every time I view an Outdoor Vitals video, I am amazed at how very little they know about hammocks.

Isn't Dutch's version very similar?

Not at all. The Fronkey is bottom-entry and the sock has a zipper for entry. You could also get a sock with no zipper, but that would be as crappy as this Outdoor Vitals abomination.

EDIT: I stand corrected - his summer sock has this same design, which I won't be buying or recommending.

Yes that is pretty much what dutch came up with as well. I'm way to old to be reaching that far up on my hammy.

The JustJeff designed tuned and built by Brandon of WB really is the best hammock over cover. This no bugnet hammock has a -10F UQ and as you can see plenty of room under.
No UQ compression. It's only design flaw is poor winter venting when your breath starts freezing and collectiing on the walls.

If you want a removable bug net and an UQP go with the fronkey style and a 2QZQ UQP. No one has come up with a better way.

You see, I'm thinking that no one would offer a product that requires the reach of an orangutan to be able to use, so I must be doing something wrong. After all, Dutch has a similar design, as well.
