Tensa4 help - head hitting side bar

    Hi!

I couldn't find what I am looking for in the BIG Tensa thread and thought I would post my question separately. If the big thread is the better place, or if the answers I seek are in there somewhere, please let me know.

I just purchased a Tensa4 stand and have spent about 3 1/2 hours fiddling with it in the backyard using an 11' x 71" wide gathered end hammock.

I have seemingly endlessly adjusted the ridgeline on the stand, the length of the hammock suspension at both ends, and the width of the baseline and no matter what I have done either my head or my shoulder are touching the side bar. For reference, I'm a little over 6'2" and a little over 200# so I'm not too big for the stand in either length or girth.

Does anyone have any ideas regarding how I may be able to correct this? Or do I just lay at too much of angle for the stand?

The Tensa4 stand seems great and I'd really like to make it work so any thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

A wider baseline and longer stand ridgeline will both help distance your head and feet from the poles. If you do both, sit height will be lower, which isn't ideal. So then you can shorten the hammock suspension a bit, perhaps.

You can also make sure the poles that would be near your head and feet for your chosen lay direction are on the "outside" of the other pole at both the head and foot ends.. Which might not make sense, but I'm struggling to think of a way to describe it... the orientation in which they're crossed. But making sure they're set up like that should buy you about an extra inch at each end.

Post a photo if you can; that will help us diagnose what you could change.

Try base width about 6' or 72"
Head end pole on the outside at base (ground) and the Foot end pole running to outside at base.

Check out at 7:30 into the video.

cmc4free - Thanks for the suggestions! I did put the head side tube on the outside after watching Shug's video. I'll definitely play with the ridgeline length some more, maybe I'll just need to be a little lower to the ground than I typically would be.

    Scmkinney0031 - Thank you, I appreciate it!

UltraRunner - Thanks for the video! Interestingly, I had room on the foot end. Maybe I can slide further down in the hammock. I was hesitant because I didn't want to shift my weight too far toward the foot end and end up taco'd.

What are you using for hammock suspension on the stand? Any chance the suspension is shorter at the head end?

A picture is worth a thousand words. If you could take a picture of how you are hanging the hammock on the stand it would help. Better if you can also have a picture taken with you in the hammock.

Thanks all, I'll see if my wife can take a picture of me in the hammock and post it here.

The wide fabric hammock may be a factor. I notice I’m closer to the poles with my wide hammock (Dutchware Hexon 1.7) than with my Sparrow. The Dutchware is also few inches longer.

It may be your lie isn’t quite as straight in the wide hammock, i.e. you use the wider fabric ;-)

Another thing to try, hang the foot end hammock continuous loop directly onto the Tensa stand pole, and then hang your head end (hammock) on the Tensa pole using a short length of your suspension. The idea being that you will put your foot end closer to the stand poles, and your head end farther away.

This, combined with adjusting the stand baseline to right about 6ft does the trick for me.
