    How big is too big?

I plan on making a BIG hammock - about 15' by 76" - as my everyday indoors hammock. That's as big as will fit in my bedroom.

Is this a stupid idea? Can a hammock be TOO big?

I'm hoping it will be a super-comfy, luxurious beast, with a massive sweet spot. Something I can roll around in and always be comfortable no matter what.

not sure if it will be too big but the good thing is if you don't like it you can aways make it shorter.

Mine was over 13 foot origionally. I got the extra few feetr at the end of the roll. I have since shortened it to 11 feet for backpacking purposes. I'm thinking of doing one for my house and will make it big, as I think they lie flatter.

A few years ago CreativeKate had a super large hammock made. It was huge and beautiful, black outside and red inside. I am not sure if they needed a stepladder to suspend the hammock.

My question was how do you exit? The sides have some rigidity, you have a huge "bucket" effect.

If YOU want to give your idea a try, definately go for it. I sometimes think HF has lost its innovative edge. Way too much follow the leader, too little self-development. IMHO HF was built on innovative minds wanting to design and build their PERSONAL BEST HANG.

Not to stifle innovation, but did you do the math? Finding 15 plus distance that results in anchors (screws) into strong vertical (behind walls) support isn't just random. So given your percent (83 - 86%?) sag, desired height above the floor, and angle (30 degrees-ish) off your suspension, you'll have a height for your anchor points, etc. Just checkboxes on a list to perhaps minimize a "do-over". It doesn't hurt to run the number through the hang calculator. Note, I believe the hang calculator will assume an 86% sag.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Yes! Sewing a hammock is quick, and not too expensive, and it's fun to experiment.

Yep, I used the hammock hang calculator. As far as I can tell, a 15' hammock is no "longer" than an 11' hammock with 2' of suspension at each end. It's a fairly typical hang distance. In fact that's how I got the idea - lying back in my hammock, looking at my whoopie slings, and thinking "what if those whoopie slings were just more hammock?".

If you're indoors, and don't have to worry about weight or tarp coverage, why not have the hammock extend all the way to the walls (give or take a few inches for a suspension loop of some kind).
