Travelers should prepare for and expect long delays and intermittent closures along state Route 87 from June 10-12 due the Coldwater Fire.

Firefighters working on the fire are planning to introduce low-intensity fire to areas adjacent to Route 87 between Route 260 and Lake Mary Road, beginning Monday. There will be intermittent highway closures to help ensure firefighter and public safety, so motorists should expect long delays.

The planned burnout operations will also cause smoke impacts in northern Arizona. Forecasted winds are expected to be favorable, but smoke can be expected to be heavy at times and obscure sections of Route 87 during burning operations.

As temperatures drop in the evening, smoke will settle into areas along Route 87 and Lake Mary Road near the Clints Well area. Smoke will also settle overnight south of the Mogollon Rim in areas such as Strawberry, Pine, Payson, and the Verde Valley.

Did you make it back up there? Was there much fire damage?

Sorry, was rushing out there today with the storms. I’ll be back up there next weekend with more time spare.

So, I’m camping near there tonight. The fire mostly ran across the ground. I doubt very much that it made it as far a Long Valley.

I’m camped about a mile west of our hang location on FR 147. I’ll drive past it tomorrow morning and will try to post some pictures.

Awesome, I was up on Passage 27 of the AZT this weekend from Rim Road up to Blue Ridge and back. I got chased by the thunder storms and the last two miles they got me, they got me real good.

I’m in agreement, the fire from driving around there looks like it was low and West from the work center. The only burnt stuff I could see was the burn they did to create a parameter.

I'll be there Thursday and Friday nights. Solo, possible but unlikely second person.
I'll check back closer to the date about food and all that.

Tried a new rain jacket, it failed. Thankfully I had two miles left when it came down.

AntigravityGear, seems not sealed as they state on their site. Water soaked in and ran down my back where the hood seam is at. Water also ran down my arms which pooled up in the sleeves, had to loosen the velcro at the wrists to drain.

I didn’t bother to inspect before I threw it in for this trip. Found a bunch bad stitching and no seal as stated is stitched in today when inspecting.

I’m switching back to my Outdoor Research Helium II.
