    Talking My Crowsnest Gear Test

    Hello All,

I went to a local state park for a couple of days to test out my new Crowsnest made by Stormcrow. The low was going to be in the low 40's or upper 30's. I felt that this would be a good test for my new UQ.

I got to the campground early and setup my hammock and UQ and happily went fishing for the rest of the day. That night I crawled into my hammock and proceeded to freeze my butt off. The longer I was in my hammock the angrier I got. At about 1:30 am I had had enough. I crawled out of my hammock muttering to myself planning on asking for a refund. I walked to my car and grabbed extra clothes and insulation to keep warm. As I got back to my hammock I realized that I hadn't checked to see if I had nestled the hammock inside the UQ. My Crowsnest had been off to one side of my hammock for half the night.

So, at 1:45 am in New Waverly Texas I stood in front of my hammock and slapped myself on the forehead. Then, I turned to the direction where I thought Ohio was and apologized to Stormcrow for thinking bad about his underquilt. I'll never doubt his prowess again.

For the rest of the trip I slept very warm and comfortable. I think my Crowsnest is the best.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemy. A little checking and double checking can go a long way. There have been many a forehead slapping moments in my life for sure.

    Babelfish5,
So you had to change the way you had it set up? Was it not covering your back on the first try?. Or was it off to the side and not covering your back at all the first time. Just wondering how to tweek when I receive my Crowsnest.

It was completely off to the side. I hadn't made sure that it was centered. So, my hammock wasn't nestled inside the UQ and it was completely off to the side. If you put it on the right way, you'll have no trouble.

I was in a rush to get fishing and didn't check my setup closely.

So, did you catch any fish? I love to camp and fish. My idea of heaven. I am amazed you lasted any amount of time without the UQ. I get chilled below 70 without insulation.

I caught a couple of crappie and a really nice black bass. It was a nice day fishing.
