I would replace all cordage with ZingIt. I had similar issues until I went to 7/64 Amsteel (whoopies) and Zing it (tarp line). VERY low stretch, high strength.

I use zing it on the ridge line with continuous loops in prusick knotss and soft shackles keeping the tarp taunt while supported. For the tie outs I have loops of 1/8" shock cord tied in to pull on the tarp as it stretches.

I use a large cheaper hex tarp from Chill Gorilla and a CRL since the tarp itself is pretty much just draped over the CRL there's no sagging at all since the ridge line can be pulled quite taut. I expect the same when finally stepping up to a nicer tarp and this would apply to any shape or material since the tarp is no longer a structural part and I feel extends the life of the tarp material. Can't tell from pics or wording if your RL is continuous or not but larger line doesn't necessarily mean stronger, as others have said, Zing It or similar is perfect since its thin and light with little to no stretch.

A lot of people donít put a tarp over a ridgeline as it will cause abrasion wear. They might use a CRL but then use prusik to tie the ridgeline of the tarp to it. The tarp is suspended underneath the CRL, rather than draped over it.

Abrasion between tarp and Amsteel style rl seems like a moot point with both materials being slick and low pressure where contact is made. I'd worry about it a little though with things plastic tarps and paracord. Ive had mine setup for days at a time with a fair amount of rain and wind, never done it any way but over the rl and nothing shows any wear.

I've run Zing It CRLs above and under with my AHE Toxaway and have observed no wear or abrasion. When I run it over the tarp it does allow one to see the nice cat-cut, but it doesn't seem to pool water either way.

I think a lot of us here, myself included have seriously over thought the level of friction in some of our setups or ideas. Like when using a trucker's hitch, the friction when adjusting a hammock is so little since the lines aren't under any sort of real stress until loaded, so the worry there should be more about the tight bend of line around its' own diameter and not about the friction that happens in said knot when being used while weighted or to tie a load.
