    DCF tarp with split Ridgeline

I have always used a split Ridgeline on my tarps and that's what I put on my new palace. I have seen some posts on other groups that say a DCF is more likely to be damaged from the tension. Has anyone actually seen or heard from anyone that damaged their DCF tarp by usually a split?

I've never used a split ridgeline, and definitely wouldn't with my Winter Palace. I always liked the Dutch continuous ridgeline.

Split is very common with DCF. Not sure how more prone to damage as stronger than nylon or poly.

DCF is prone to damage from abrasion and puncture, which damages the laminate, not the UHMWPE fibers. There is almost no way you are going to damage it with lateral tension -- the yield strength of the fiber is as strong as high-strength steel. The stitching on the tie-outs will give out long before you break a fiber.

I use mine with a split ridgeline, and it's totally fine. Just don't tension it too much when you string it up- leave a slight amount of slack, and you'll not have a problem. The slack will be taken care of when you stake out the sides.

I remember now why I went with the split. I had just switched from floorless
shelter to hammocking when I got the DCF. There were some posts about
how the continuous ridgline could cause abrasion to the tarp from the ridgeline rubbing
the tarp. There seemed to be more likelihood of abrasion than over tensioning
    the tarp.

I had the same thoughts about my tarp. I run a separate RL under the tarp just a tad shorter. I use Dutch stingers with no issues. The extra RL gives me peace of mind and a place to hang items when needed.
