Ridgeline organizer

For those that have tried multiple kind/brands what is your favorite ridgeline organizer and what do you like most vs others.

I am switching from a XLC to an Eldorado for backpacking and I'm looking to replace some of the shelf functionality. Never really needed one before.

For a basic ridgeline organizer, I like the one Dream Hammock makes because it combines a full size horizontal pocket with smaller vertical pockets. That horizontal pocket is the easiest one to get in and out of while still lying down. I don't use a ridgeline organizer anymore, but I personally think this is the best design.



Lots of people like the Gear Sling also, but it's not so much an organizer as it is a catch-all sack.

I’ve used Dutch’s ridgeline organizers. It had two vertical pockets for small items like cell phones and power banks. It also has a large horizontal pocket that fits my iPad perfectly.

I used two, amsteel dog bones to loop around the ridgeline, and horizontally looped them around my water bottle. No issues.

Donna at 2qzq makes a dandy one with 4 pockets and Velcro attachments. I did the 2 mesh/2 sil version to keep some things out of view, like my wallet etc.

Dutch includes a stuff sack with his hammocks. It's a bag with drawstrings on both sides. I don't use it to store my hammock so I just put by ridgeline through the center of it. I can store things in it and access it from both ends. I can slide it wherever I want on the ridgeline and it works great.

I don't use one any longer.. I just made a small peak bag for one hammock and made a small gear hammock for the other two.. small.. about a foot long.

That said my favorite organizer was one I made a few years ago. Basically a double ended noseeum stuff sack for the hammock, with two small grosgrain loops sewn into the main seam. I had tiny soft shackles prussik'd to the ridge line that would go through the grosgrain loops. Cinch one end of the stuff sack and leave the other end open. It was a double duty piece of gear.. stuff sack for hammock storage by day and ridge line organize by night.

I just use my hammock/tarp stuff sacks.

Purchased a ridgeline organizer from Dutch. Weighing only 8 grams, it's dimensions fit my Pixel 2 phone perfectly on pencil & paper. The organizer does everything it is supposed to do. In the field things are different because the phone is stored in a freezer bag to prevent condensation. It no longer fits into the ridgeline organizer comfortably. Should have thought this out.

I'm in the same boat, sort of. I've gone from an XLC to a Simply Light Designs Trail Lair and, although I have the peak shelf, I'm finding that I sort of miss the XLC's shelf. That shelf on the XLC will hold SOOOOO much stuff. I still use a ridgeline organizer for the small stuff that I want readily accessible, but the combination of a DH Gear Sling (for bigger stuff inside the hammock) and the KitsapCowboy gear hammock (for stuff outside) holds ALL of the other stuff quite well.
