    Amok Draumr Issues

Just purchased a new Amok Draumr for my wife last week and set it up yesterday for a trial run. Setup was easy and once inside it is definitely comfortable but my issue is getting in and out. For me at 5’11” I found getting in and out difficult to do without the foot box dragging on the ground. For my wife at 5’2” it was almost impossible without me helping her which isn’t practical long term.

I’ve tried to find any reviews where someone mentions the same issues and have yet to find any negative comments (except weight) so thinking I must be doing something wrong. Any tips would be appreciated.

Try getting in and out side-saddle style. Set it in chair mode getting in and out. That helps.

Be careful, another user ripped his Draumr by grounding the footbox!

Amok has a few setup videos on youtube; the earlier ones show them bending the footbox up & over to ease entry and the most recent one shows them backing into the hammock and using the straps to pull themselves up.

Also, don't be afraid to use the ridgeline as a handle for extra support getting in or out.

it can definitely been a pain

    I'm 5'8ish, with a 30 inch inseam

I've found the most consistent way for me, is to straddle the foot box, and pull it between my legs as far as possible

i then kinda just back up until the whole thing is vertical, start to sit, and let it kinda start to swing forward

    very non-graceful

Thanks for that video cmc4free. It explained much of what I had questions about along with telling me that at 5'2" I might expect some challenges getting in and out. I would most certainly have to use the folded up food end method or set it up in chair mode to enter. Since I am an old woman and have to get up 2 or 3 times per night...not sure it would work out well for me.

I am trying to get used to getting in from the left side. Then I do not have to unzip much of the net. I just grab the right side with my right hand and pull the hammock under me. When I sit in the middle I can balance and easily swing in. Of course I have missed the middle a few times, and I just slide to the ground, but this has not happen lately (a couple of close calls though). Well worth the learning curve considering how comfortable it is.

This is exactly what I do. As mentioned before, don't forget to reach up and use the ridgeline to help pull yourself in. There is a learning curve but it continues to get easier with practice.

I'm 5'10" and I find getting in quite easy. Easiest way for me is to just bend the footbox and hop in sideways.
I have tried the cowboy method of just pulling the pad between my legs and sitting in the middle, but I find it looks kinda funny. Doesn't much matter if there are only deers and squirrels to see. Pro being you can keep the stick in the footbox when doing this.

Use the ridgeline and the side straps for balancing. They should hold.

Thanks for all the tips everybody. Been lounging in the hammock for the last few days and getting in side saddle style seems to be the easiest at the moment. I think the wife is going to try it for a couple nights. Fingers crossed she likes it otherwise it's back to the ground when we camp together
