Thread: Door Size

    Door Size

Going to be making my own tarps. One tarp will have square ends the other will have a catenary cut. I am planning to add removable doors to both by using velcro to attach the doors to the tarp. Any idea on how to size the door? 1/2 of the tarp will be 65 inches, so if I want an isosceles right triangle shape for the door I can use the formula 2*a*a = 65 * 65. a=46 inches.

Do you think that door will be large enough?

The above picture is for the tarp with square ends, I realize the ends on the catenary cut tarp are going to be longer.

are you making a simple rectangular tarp? If you are making a hex cut you might have to alter those dimensions a touch. Also I saw snaps being used on the new winter dream tarp from backwoods, if you didn't want to hassle with velcro.

Tarp will be rectangle. Dimensions about 130" x 133".

The 130 demension is the width of the fabric (65*2) and flat felled seamed together, so it may end up 128"

    I guess it's more of a square!

mathematically what you have come up with sounds spot on. I might make it a touch bigger just to make sure that there aren't any gaps. But of coarse when in the field you can just adjust the tarp a little to accommodate for them.

I made mine from cheap "any-old-fabric" first ... no sewing, just sizing. Do that and you will know for sure.
Then you will have an exact pattern.
