Probably a silly question but I need a tarp pfor my 11 ft dream hammock Raven. I've been using the 10'-6 vertex tarp from my Clark and it's a bit short. So I want to buy a new tarp. 11 foot seems long enough but 12 feet would be even better. What do our guys think? Eleven feet or twelve?
Eleven is plenty but a 12 will offer more coverage. It's really up to you and how much coverage you want. The 12 will also need a bit more tree spacing but this would be a non factor in my opinion.
I use a 12' AHE Toxaway on my 10.5' DH Freebird. Plenty of coverage there. I'm starting to look hard @ the 11' WB Thunderbird/1/2 doors.
I think an 11' hammock would fit fine under one of those.

I've used HammockGear's Quest with the 12 foot ridgeline for several different hammocks, including my 11 foot gathered end, my bridge and a Just Bill bridge I tested for a while. I like the extra six inches of coverage at the ends, and with the pretty large cat cuts the weight difference over the 11-foot ridgeline version is trivial. I've had my Quest in several downpours including a wind whipped night on the AT last October and had no issues with any of these hammocks.
You probably already know this, but for anyone reading the thread who doesn't, Dream Hammock's website includes tarps from UGQ in both 11 and 12 foot ridgeline versions. The UGQ Hanger Hex has a 12 foot version and the additional cost is minimal. I've never been sorry to have a tarp with a slightly longer ridgeline. Since you're using the Raven, seems logical to go back to the same source for a tarp maybe.

Today I don't even know why I asked this question. I know that an 11 footer is long enough for an 11 foot hammock. But last time I used my vertex (10-6 ridgeline) I looked up in the middle of the night and noticed that there was very little coverage on one end - probably because the tarp wasn't centered. I forgot to check it in the morning. I actually have a 12 footer and I like it and the ample coverage. Its poly coated nylon and it weighs quite a bit - that's why I'm looking at getting something new.
I use a 12 foot dutchware xenon hex tarp on my 11' DH. I enjoy the extra coverage and since I'm really tall I rarely have issues regarding finding trees where I have enough room for a 12 foot tarp while maintaining the proper sag.
I usually use an 11' hex tarp with my 10' hiking hammock and don't think that I have too much coverage. I have used 11' hex tarps with 11' hammocks and don't like how low I have to hang the tarp to get adequate coverage. Also I have to put in a lot more effort to center the hammock or the tarp. There's not a lot margin for errors.
I do love the mini-door tarps, though. The "beak" provides a lot of coverage. An 11' mini-door tarp with an 11' hammock works great and weighs less than a 12' hex tarp.

i have an 11 foot hammock, and 2 11 foot tarps...A Dutchware Hex, which provides adequate coverage, but now am favoring my 11 foot Superfly. Superfly offers excellent coverage of course with the doors, but surprisingly, even with the doors pulled back and in Hex mode, it provides more coverage than my other hex tarp. The cat cuts are not as deep on the Superfly. It’s a great tarp.
