Backpacking/Hiking near Bangor, ME or 1-2hr drive from there

My family will be meeting more family for a few days in Bangor, ME. I was hoping I could squeak in an overnight to myself while there. Any suggestions of a great or secluded place to hang? I like to hike in 3+ miles from any trailhead for camping, but a quiet campground near trails or biking would be good too.

Moosehead Lake Area is at the 2hr mark. I'm partial to that area as I spent a lot of time fishing/camping there with my family in my youth. One of my favorite places is Little Moose Mtn area. There are primitive no fee campsites on Big and Little Moose Ponds. Last time I was there (many years ago) you could drive on a dirt road to within a mile or so of Big Moose Pond. But if the road is closed off, it would still be an easy walk from the parking area at the paved road (Rt 15& Rt 6). It can be a busy area in the spring with the fishermen, but slows down once the weather warms up.

There are many dirt roads up in that area and a lot of people just pull off somewhere and camp.

Hopefully someone will be able to suggest something closer to Bangor.

Acadia National Park is only an hour and a half away, but you have to stay in a campground.
