That little incident taught me to rethink my packing procedures. The really important stuff like all suspensions, hammock, tarp, and stakes are carried inside the pack so they cannot fall out of a side pocket when some old person forgets to biner or tie them on.

I've thought about this too but currently only carry an extra tree strap in the form of a belt. I've never used it, but it saved my hiking buddy one trip.

Not much can go wrong with a hammock. I always have extra cordage that can replace a structural ridge line. I have a few dog bones and at least one soft shackle that can replace a damaged continuous loop. If a tree strap fails, I have a dynaglide ucr that can replace more than half of the length of the strap. If the hammock has a catastrophic failure.. I am going to the ground. That's another thread.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

It's never happened to me yet although it almost did once-nearly walked off and left the grey lashit tarp suspension on the trees.I have heard of people hiking all day only to realize that they left their hammock suspension where they camped last night................

Twenty dollars worth of carabiners and descending rings left on trees. Only has to happen once.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I bring a handful of zip ties in several sizes. Handy for repairing all sorts of stuff.
