    Tarpworms vs Hookworms

Which do you prefer for your tarp tieouts?

I own both. Started with tarpworms on my UGQ tarp. When I got the Warbonnet Thunderfly I ordered hookworms for that. I thought I'd prefer the hookworms but ultimately I like the tarpworms better. They stay with the tarp. The line isn't tangled when I go to set up and being occasionally absent minded I will never leave the tarpworms and line behind.

They work identically as a tensioner. So ask yourself:

Would I rather leave the guylines attached to the tarp? (Choose tarpworms)
Or would I rather leave the guylines attached to the stakes? (Choose hookworms)

Neither of these MUST be used in those fashions (you could, for example, attach the guylines of the hookworms to the tarp and connect the hook to a loop at the stake), but the above are basically descriptions of the typical use cases for each of the hardware types.

I have both and prefer the hookworms. I keep them attached to the stakes along with the guy lines. I can then use the same stakes and tarpworms with multiple tarps. Also, with the tarpworms you can flip one side of the tarp over the ridgeline (so both sides are on the same side) and hook two opposing loops with one hookworm.

Three tarps and all three have only Tarp Worms. Tried Hook Worms and still have a few in my parts bins, but I don't use them. All of my ground lines and tarp worms stay attached to each of the tarps.

I'm the odd one out here, cos I leave my hookworms attached to my tarp. They securely "hook" to the loops of shockcord at each tie-out.

So I'm using them like tarpworms, but I have the ability to unhook them and flip one side of the tarp over. Best of both worlds.

I use hook worms. I have shock cord loops on my 2 tarps, the hook worms are attached to my stakes. I plan on getting a DCF tarp with doors in the near future. So, instead of having to buy multiple sets of tarp worms (or move them), I just grab my stake bag and whichever tarp.

I figure the tarp worms are cheap enough to have permanently attached to the tarps, especially considering how expensive my tarps are!

No way I am leaving home without the proper guy lines for the tarp I grab (they are different lengths for each tarp). If I forget or lose stakes I can improvise. Can't improvise on four guy lines.

I use hook worms, and went that route for pretty much the same reason.

tarp worms. reason: hookworms bend and to use , you must leave lines attached to stakes. I keep my lines attached to the tarp via tarpworm.
