OOOHHH Ill def post a trip report...and I would be so down for a mid fall hang in PA to see the leaves changing color right around when the air starts to get cool and crisp...best time to camp IMHO...enjoy Dutch, Greenlespaul and all others who atttend
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Well, I guess that will teach me to check out HF "before" I make reservations for dragging my pop-up camper down to French Creek...literally, I checked the weekend weather, saw that it is going to be beautiful, and immediately made ressies. Then I looked at HF and saw Dutch's post.
Sorry, but I guess this is going to be another "maybe next time" post.
BTW, Dutch, I grew up in Stevens...not too far from Reinholds!!! What a small world!!!

BTW, my grandparents live right over the ridge from the SGL parking lot along Rt. 183. Does anyone have any idea when we'd see a goodly sized bubble of thru-hikers coming by that area? I'd like to try to organize some impromptu (for the hikers) trail magic activity in that area.

July 4th is a good time for the thrus. So any weekend in late June to mid July would be the heavy season. Maybe we should all just come to French creek.

Soo, is there an 'official' parking area on 183 or do you just find a spot on the shoulder near the trail?

i definitely plan to go; need to try out my zipper mod (how does she DO that??) and the whoopie slings.

There is a large parking area just 1/4 mile south of 183. You can park there and follow 183 up to the trail of follow the dirt road the parking area is on and it is 1/4 mile just before where the road splits and the radio tower. You can follow the AT for almost 4 miles to the blue blaze trail to the Eagle nest shelter. You also could just stay on that dirt road and it will intersect with teh blue blaze tral to the shelter. There is planty of water. It will be great to meet you. A coule of us are meeting at 2:30 and I think 2Q is getting there around 5:30. There is a parking area about 1.5 miles from the shelter but you need a map to use it as it comes in on some side trails. It will be great to meat you.
