Hammock structural ridgeline - 7/64" adjustable

Since I use different lengths and widths of hammocks, I like an adjustable structural ridgeline (SRL). The sweet spot is different for each hammock. Also, I use 7/64 Amsteel, because I know that, if I have a long distance between trees, as I sometimes do, so that I can't achieve a 30 degree hang, then that SRL is going to be under considerable strain. I don't want the SRL to ever fail, as that considerable strain would then be transferred to the hammock. So anything less than 7/64 makes me nervous.

What I have been doing is tying a fixed loop at one end, using a Bowline knot. This, I larks head to the head end of the hammock. Actually, I larks head it in the tying of the knot, if that makes sense. The adjustable end goes to the hammock foot. I use a continuous loop larks headed to the foot end for the SRL to slide through. I had used a Loop Alien clone to achieve adjustability, but I didn't like it and wanted a different, hardwareless, way to do the same thing. I considered a Taut Line Hitch, but I had read about slippage problems. Then, the other day, I saw an article about the Adjustable Grip Hitch, so I decided to try that (slipped). So far, looks good. We'll see. After I have used it for a while, I will report the experience.

UCR’s are a far better design for the application of an adjustable SRL. Better than a whoopie. Less cordage saves weight and cost. And no need for an eye for an adjustable loop to slide through. And the hanging tail is shorter and more out of the way.

I am with you on the 7/64” standard. At least use Dynaglide before going all the way down to Zing-it. I hang lots of things from mine and use it to sit up and to balance for changing clothes. I think the extra half ounce is a wise investment.

Thanks, but I've tried them both and didn't like either. Neither was as compact or as easily adjustable as current system. Still, although I don't anticipate slippage, it could happen. We'll see. So far, though, it's more stable than the earlier UCR.

Though I don't use adjustable RL's any longer, I agree that the ucr worked better for me than the whoopie style. I've yet to have a problem with zingit for the RL. I've never overstressed it, so not sure whether it could be problematic in the future, but...

I guess Dynaglide or NERopes Endura 12 would be a good compromise.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....
