That way when the bugs come out you can simply roll it down and re-zip it. Usually during the day I'll keep it rolled up and out of the way and then right before bed I'll pull it down and zip it up.

On a side-note I had heard some folks complain about the zipper sliding off the end of the zipper runs when they get in or out of the hamock. I had Randy sew a snap on each end of the zipper runs and this seems to alleviate any possible issues of that happening.

Great company to work with and very high quality hammock in my opinion.
The Kam Snap mod works great. I didn't really have the issue with the zippers coming completely undone after the first couple times of entering/exiting the hammock. But since I already had the Kam Snaps, I figured "why not?"

I have a Raven and it is a very good feeling hammock.
Don't own an HG hammock so can't compare.

One thing I will add is it seems like Raven is a deeper hammock than the others that I have tried. The ridgeline is up higher and it feels more spacious. I like that aspect of it.

You make a great point! I've noticed the same things ng with my Raven. It just seems to have a great sag and spread out nice and wide when I get in. I don't really know why that is. In theory, every 11' hammock with a 110" ridgeline should hang the same way. Perhaps the magic is in the geometry of the bug net. The Smurfs have that nailed, IMO.

Hey Shug, do you notice the zippers on the sides of the hammock when you are just hanging out and the bug net is pulled up? I don't have a hammock with the zippers yet and am just wondering if they rub the back of your legs when sitting or if they bother you while laying? No one seems to talk about that aspect so I'm thinking it is a non-issue, and not knowing is annoying me as I'm trying to figure out what my next hammock will be. Thanks.

Nope...the zippers have never bothered me on any of my hammocks whilst sitting. But usually have pants on.
    Same laying.

My Blackbird XLC zipper can be a bit uncomfortable when I put my boots on. Because of the sinus shaped cut of the gathered end, the zippered sides are a bit shorter and stand up. I fold back the edge 30 cm (1') to sit comfortably:

@harmtev and @shug thank you. So far, I am a fair weather hammocker so I'm in shorts when using it. The fold idea makes sense and it is good to know that the zippers are pretty much a non-issue.

We have soooo many bugs (nothing like the flying squadrons of mosquitoes in MN and MI) that I'm getting a bug net in my next hammock so I can sleep without having a buzz saw in my ears.
