I'm OK in a 10. 11 is my nightly sleeper at home. My goto is a simple 10.5'. Best of both worlds.

The only part of a hammock that is Asym is the net. It is suppose to help maintain a diagonal lay, but does not affect the shape of a hammock. Perhaps it helps manage it at best.
Hammock Tourist / Hammock Fiend / Hammock Therapist
As an example, a WB XLC is an Asym setup, but remove the net, and you have a symmetrical traveler .

And if you flip the net over and reattach it, you've reversed the asym direction. Same goes for Chameleon and probably some others. I don't recall if you can flip the net on a Sparrow to reverse the asym direction - I was thinking you could at first, but now I'm second guessing.

So a few other suggestions with a 10.5 footer. This would be a great compromise for you to try out. You know, research.... it must be done. On multiple nights.... for science
Another 5'9" and 10' user. I tried out Papa Smurfs 11' darien at HangCon a few years back and it was a dream lay. When the funds arise, it will hopefully be the length of my next hammock.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Good info. Thanks.
Incidentally, one thing that I have learned is that, with the DutchWare Netless standard (not the wide) and the Dream FreeBird, they will make it to your specs, lengthwise. Good to know. I'm considering a FreeBird in Monolite at maybe 10' 4". However, as cmc4free so wisely pointed out, it would be so easy to just whip a foot off of one end, probably the foot end, to try it out, that I may just go with the 11'. Can always shorten it permanently if I think wise.
