Continuous over the top. This lets the ends flair up if it's not tight. Let's you get a few inches closer to your hammock without rubbing.
A trekking pole pull out works better over vs under as its pulling against a tight line compared to just a taut tarp. It has a higher vantage point, potentially allowing a larger pull.
It's probably me, but I think it's easier to adjust right to left.
I often will have an non-structual ridgline under the tarp too to hang things from if I'm spending more then a day in camp or if I expect to get soaked from the days hike. Just a line of 1mm braided fishing line with zingit soft shackles on the ends.
