What do you think of the idea of adding a foot box to your existing hammock? Do you think it would help in the quest to lay flatter? Not having seen a WBBB in person, I'm trying to visualize how it would be done.
Any ideas?

I'm thinking that what you're imagining might be best accomplished in a bridge type hammock, OR changing the way you gather the end of a "gathered end hammock" before whipping it, letting it "sag" in the middle.
I think someone may have sewn in extra fabric to create a lower foot end, but if you do much adding on, you can begin to get into problems w/ too much stitching in the hammock body. To much stitching in the wrong places will lead to a ripppp!
I too will something make and joy in it's making
Well, I've only tried a WBBB once, but that was at a MAHHA hang, and I had the benefit of advice and impressions from a number of people there (and, of course the willingness to set up the hammock so I could try it). I was particularly interested in the footbox because I wanted to see if it would help me lie flatter. My impression is that the footbox helps to block the wind near the feet, but doesn't contribute to the flatness of the lie. I found the hammock pretty comfortable, though. If you can get to a group hang, ask someone who has a BB if you can try it. People are pretty helpful, and first-hand experience is invaluable.
WV is correct. The footbox does not change the lay of the hammock.

The WBBB lay is mostly a function of the whipping method.

Knotty is right on. The foot box has nothing to do with the lay. Thats all whipping, fabric and ridge line length. What the foot box does do is support the shelf. The foot box and the shelf make the bugnet symmetrical, getting around Hennessy's patent.
