I might be wrong ... but back in the day I use to climb that craig but then in the 70's they banned that when someone got killed rappelling ... then they didn't allow anyone on the summit ... haven't heard that you can do that again but there are a lot of great trails around it and to the cliffs west of there.

The Jameoke(sp?) trail goes around the knob, but there's still no climbing to the top of the knob due to it now being a Raven sanctuary. Still a lot to see and some rock outcroppings to sit on with views, although they have "disney-fied" some of them recently with railings and walls and such. There's a lot to experience there. Nice hikes around the cliffs, etc.

There use to be ... and probably still is a nice hike down to the river and there's a Horne Creek Historical farm and stuff down the trail. You can loop back around another trail that goes back up to the park a bit to the east. I've not done that hike in ... a few more years than I prefer to discuss but very enjoyable hike.

    Bump!

Not long now until 2Q & ZQ will be heading to Pilot Mountain State Park, NC!
Just a reminder for some of you folks close enough who would like to go by & hang out w/ them some.
Sounds like Sat & Sun (May 29 & 30) will be the best times to visit.

From the sounds of it this is a much needed break for ZQ and her faithful companion 2Q. Donna did admit to being "buried" in projects, but found enough time to get my BMBH out to me before vacation. Thank You again, ZQ!! Enjoy your time off.

And who knew HVAC tech support was only a PM away!!

Thing1 and I will be there... perhaps Smiling Face and IronK as well.

Can you believe I have never been to Mt. Pilot? Been to nearby Hanging Rock many times...

I'd love to come out to see everyone while 2Q and ZQ are here, but I'll be driving to Kentucky to hike in the Red River Gorge/Clifty Wilderness that weekend. Sorry to miss visiting, I'm sure it'll be fun.
