Yes, use thicker cotton shoestrings
And if you have extra strap at end of your suspension, use excess strap as a drip line.
This will give rain running down strap two or three chances to drip off suspension
Also strap can be twisted so that more water falls off suspension.
Sometimes some moisture gets through

That excess strap or whoopie sling can be wrapped loosely around hammock suspension to make three or more extra exits for water to drip off suspension before it gets to your drip line proper. It will look like a series of connected letter U hanging from suspension

I use a 1" wide scrap piece of kitchen dish towel. Just enough to tie a knot and hang a few inches. It works better than any kind of string or shoelace on webbing since a knot, even loose, bunches up the webbing. The towel on the other hand is thick and "touches" all of the webbing on each side so no water gets thru.

I have a amsteel continuous loops on the ends of my hammock so the shoeline goes on that - not an issue bunching up. But I could see how it would on the webbing. Does your webbing attach directly to the hammock?

I like the Warbonnet system, so it's a metal triangular buckle. Water always finds a way so it's definitely not a suitable water break alone.

So simple. Thanks guys! I knew something was up. I rewatched Shug's video that TrailSlug posted and when I saw Shug using the end of his whoopie sling as a water break, it made me wonder, arent whoopies made from the same water resistant material as zing it essentially?

yeah, but if you watch again, you'll see that's only as a sort of a back up plan, because it's there, so why not?

Hey all,

New hanger here, I just got back from a 7 day stretch on trail, which was great in every way but one. On the first night on trail it started raining at 4 am which was my first time getting rained on in the new setup. I have drip lines on my hammock made of the yellow zing it type line that Warbonnet sells in spools, however when I got out of the hammock in the morning, the gathered ends of the hammock were wet, along with the shock cord running down to my underquilt and the draft baffles on said underquilt. The drip lines appeared to be more wet than the continuous loops and seemed to channel away SOME of the water but not all. I have the drip lines placed on my hammocks continuous loops between the hammock and the cinch buckles on the continuous loops. This seems how most people have it done, so I'm a bit confused.

Rain some knowledge on me here!
