What's the best way to attach webbing to the tree for use with the single ring suspension system

Hey team!

So what I *normally* do is take my 10' 1" webbing and loop it around the tree, then tie a square knot (to kind of prevent the rope from slipping down the tree. Then I'll create a slip knot with a loop by basically taking both ends and tying an overhand knot.

I have fond it's easy to pull on the two ends when breaking down and pull down on them to get rid of the loop.

Once I have the loop I go ahead and run the cord connected to my hammock through that loop and back thru my single ring suspension to finish the setup.

This has always worked for me, but I'm wondering if I've been unknowingly committing a faux pas in my approach.

Using a Hennessy hammock deep jungle xl if it matters.

This seems really overcomplicated and slow to me. Unless I'm in a really narrow span with fairly thin trees, I just loop my (much shorter) webbing around the tree, put one end through the other, then hook my whoopie sling to the free end and go from there.

I just loop around the tree and pass the end through the loop on one end of the tree strap. Done.

Lots of different ways to suspend your hammock
You are free to use your current rigging or you can change it to another way.
To get ideas on various suspensions watch some YouTube videos, especially Shug’s videos. He even has a three part video series showing suspensions from hardware to knots.

I lost you at the square knot.

Rule #1.. if it ain't broke don't fix it. So if it's been working, don't be in such a rush to change. That said, suspension stuff needs to be super simple, easy to install/break down, even if you're working with wet, freezing hands and it's dark out.

That said, the simplest tree end solution i have found is the Grappler Hitch. You'll never lose your expensive bling hardware..

Here's how you tie it and use it at the tree end..

You'll need an eye sewn in one end of your strap which a shoe maker or tailor can do, if you can't. Or send your straps to me and I'll sew the eye AND make the Grapplers Hitch for you.

If you like the Grapplers Hitch idea, I may have an extra set of straps with an eye in them that can work. If I do, and you want them, cover the shipping and I'll send them to you with or without the Grapplers Hitch.

I also cannot envision how this works based on the written description but to me it sounds unnecessarily complicated.

Easy enough to thread thru the sewn loop (or even loop tied with simple overhand) at the tree end and use a Lapp, J-Bend or Becket directly to CL, thereby eliminating the ring.

But as MikekiM said, stick with it if what you're doing is working for you... there is nothing technically 'wrong' with it. Just another of the roughly 4 billion ways to do it.
