    Porch-Mode with SLD Winter Haven

I got my SLD Winter Haven last year and haven't really been able to play with the "porch mode" until this past week. In the past with my old tarp I just used two poles and it worked ok, but after switching to Lineloc 3's and the internal pole mod, I have to say this thing is pretty sweet (and way easier to use/set up). It's an XL material so the coverage is more than ample. I really like how it's possible to open one side or both sides completely or open up one edge and leave the other down for better protection. The Lineloc's allow super easy raising and lowering of the edges of the tarp. When I first got them I wasn't going to add them to the tarp but I'm very glad I did now.

I love my SLD Winter Haven and use it 95% of the time I backpack. I stopped taking the interior polls due to weight though. I love those linelocs and would recommend them for all tarps.

I agree. I just put line locs on my Superfly...love ‘em! 2.5 mm Lawson Glowire works great with line locs 3’s

That's a sweet looking tarp! You're not getting wet under that.

Nice looking tarp! Looks like you've got plenty of room under there and I've always been a fan of line locs.

For porch mode, I use my fully extended trekking poles with a long prussik on the pull out line to hold the tip of the pole, plus it gives me a handy spot to hang stuff.

When I first got the tarp I put the Lineloc's on and wasn't impressed at all as the cordage kept slipping. Then I realized I think I had them set up wrong. I re-did them and am super happy with how easy they are to use. I had a couple good windy nights to test them out and there was no slippage at all

Tip for using line locs: When I got my first tarp from Jared, I could never keep straight which end of the line to pull to tighten, so I tied a small knot on the pulling end. Makes it a lot easier to do it by feel, in the dark, or with gloves on.
