Suggestions for XLC bugnet/shelf tieouts under winter tarp

I'm still relatively new to the Blackbird XLC. I used it last night for the first time under a winter tarp, my HG DCF Palace. For the bugnet and shelf, I just ran the tie out cords to the same stakes I used for the tarp corners. For the shelf, that wasn't a big deal but for the bugnet it was definitely a compromise compared to tying out to something higher off the ground.

I imagine for a smaller hex tarp, tying out to the actual tarp corner and not to the stake would be an improvement, but with a wide tarp like the Palace, the tarp corner is pretty close to the stake anyway. Porch mode on the head side would obviously make a big difference, but aside from that, does anyone have other suggestions? I'm sure there are many that use the XLC with a Superfly, so I'm curious what others have come up with. Thanks.

That works for sure and I do it once in a while as well.
Usually I just get used to using top of my forearm to push bug net up a bit as I duck and crawl in. Mainly when out on a trip in the woods. Worth it to me to have that bugnet well off of my face as I slumber.

Hiking pole under the tarp you mean? Not as in porch mode? That's a good suggestion.

You can see a hiking pole used to hold my XLC net up in this video right in beginning.

I didn't really notice a problem climbing in, and the bugnet was still up off my face (possibly the best feature of the WBBB), but all the fabric between the bugnet tie outs and my shoulder was loose... More so than it would be if the tie out was pulled upward and not downward.

It wasn't a deal breaker; I'm just fishing to see if anyone has come up with creative solutions to this minor inconvenience.

Thanks. Yeah, I wonder if similar could be done underneath a tarp (not in porch mode) by tying a knot in the elastics to shorten them.

If I do use porch mode, it's usually on the foot side, not the head side. And anyway, I'm curious if there's a solution that doesn't involve porch mode, just for the sake of exploring the options.
