Hammocks are kinda like boots or shoes. We have to fit into them and feel good over the time we spend in them.

Your 2-year old XLC has less stretch than a single layer Hexon 1.6 Chameleon. How much less stretch depends on the number of layers and the fabric. If you have a 1.7 SL, that is a 70D fabric. The Hexon 1.6 is a 40D fabric. Even though the weight per square yard is fairly close, the weight of the yarn isn't. I have tried *a lot* of fabrics and found, that I get back pain in almost every single layer made with fabrics lighter than 70D. So that could be your issue.

However, another important difference between Warbonnet and Dutch hammocks is the sag (i.e. ridgeline length in relation to hammock length). Warbonnet hammocks have a very long ridgeline; Dutch hammocks go with 83%. You might have noticed, that the ridgeline in your Chameleon is much higher up than in your XLC. I prefer long ridgelines (89-90%) similar to the Warbonnet hammocks, since I feel that it gives me a much flatter lay. Everytime I lie in a hammock with more sag for a couple of hours, I get the urge to get out and stretch out. So when you shortened the ridgeline of the Chameleon, you might have made it worse. You could try detaching the bug net and lengthening the ridgeline to 89% and see if it improves things for you. If it doesn't, it's probably the fabric. Dutch sells a netless hammock made with a super comfortable 70D fabric. You could give that a try. If it works for you, I'm sure you could get him to make a Chameleon with the Hexon 1.7.
