Off the ground in New York

Found the forum from one of Shug's Youtube videos and have been lurking for a little while now, so I wanted to finally say hello.

A few friends had been pushing me toward a hammock for some time now, so I somewhat stubbornly tucked my Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo away and took the plunge on one of Dutch's Chameleon hammocks and a hex tarp.

Spent my first two nights in it on a trip to the Eastern High Peaks in the Adirondacks a few weeks back. The first night was a rough hang as we were stuck in a heavy rain all day and didn't have the energy to try and get things set up properly. Night two was a refreshingly good sleep, even considering the hang could have been a lot better. One photo of the hang and a couple from the trip.

Looking forward to learning more and getting an even better night's sleep out on the trail.

Welcome from up the river in Ossining.

Looks like Lake Tear of the Clouds, perhaps?

Glad you had an easier time of it the second night! It'll be even more comfortable next time when your suspension angle is shallower (30deg) and there's a little tension in the hammock's structural ridge line.
UL, because nobody ever asks "How can I make my pack heavier?"

Welcome to the forum. I'm north of you in Putnam County. I do most of my trips in the Adirondacks, but we have some sections of the AT that have some good spots for hanging if you are looking for someplace closer to home. I like them in late fall or early winter before the first snowfall.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, that is Lake Tear of the Clouds. We did Skylight and Marcy that day and Algonquin and Wright the previous day.

I'm in Brooklyn without a car so most of my trips are up to Harriman just for convenience sake. It's so easy to access via public transportation and there are plenty of places to camp. I think I've probably walked at least 1/3 of the all trails over the past two years in that park.

I'll usually make it up to the Catskills once a summer and hope to make it back to the Adirondacks for another trip this year.

Let me know if you all are headed out a trip anytime soon.
