Go to resource for learning Amsteal splicing tutorials?

Anyone have a site they would reccomend as a go to site for learning splicing and all the great things that can be done with 7/64th Amsteal. I have reviewed the Dutch links to Samson. However, I am looking for a resource specific to the size we use.

    Thanks.
    Your help is much appreciated.

In the same line - what is the "rule of thumb" for shrinkage per inch length of bury? I've seen general formulas, be we are primarily dealing with 7/64. Is the figure something like 1 inch of shrinkage for 4 inches of bury?

So if I want a dog bone 10 inches long - with a 4 inch bury from the loops on each end. Would I make the "center" length 12 inches because each of the 4 inch buries would eat up 1 inch in length - that sort of thing.

I'm not counting the taper at the end of the bury when considering bury length because it is usually half as thick (only 4 stands). Please say if the "rule of thumb" needs to include the taper in the bury length.

As Shug says, YouTube is your friend for this stuff. I've found Tac Blades to be a good resource for a lot of amsteel projects. Search on "Tac Blades" and you'll find him.

Quite a few splicing links here:

I read somewhere that bury shrinkage is 20%, and that's the rule of thumb I use, though I've never tested it to see if it's accurate.

These vids are the ones that I find most helpful. They're from HF member TheBrewGuy.

Samson Rope (maker of Amsteel) has an entire corner of their website devoted to splicing.

So 1 inch shrinkage for 5 inches of bury; I can work with that. (assuming 4 inch full diameter + 1 inch taper = 5 inch bury)

I second Tac Blade's videos. I really like his Improved soft shackle.

L-36 dot com has some splicing instructions and explanations under the tab Soft Shackles. (It is a sailing website.) There are calculators included in some of the articles, such as this one.

Also check out Grog's Animated Knots (and there's a phone app for that too!) They have a small section on splices.
