Wooki for sure. You can use a sleeping bag you already own for top insulation and be super comfortable. A top quilt / pad combo won't be anywhere near as comfortable. I have used a pad for about 3 months, and it just doesn't work very well in a gathered end hammock.

With regards to the suspension: try the cinch buckles / webbing suspension if you're not counting grams. It's more adjustable than whoopies; can be better fine tuned; and is easiest to use.

My primary use will be backpacking. I've given up sleeping on the ground if at all possible. I'm going to start section hiking some of the AT soon. I was going to try and make the hang down at Santee and get some up close looks ,but I have to work and with Warbonnet having their Labor Day sale this weekend I might as well jump in.

I bought a Diamondback while I was still tent camping because I wanted to save weight over my sleeping bag. Added my XLC & Thunderfly later. I’m still making do with my tent camping pad although I’m not sure how much longer that will last.

IMO, which to buy first depends on what options you already have for each, and which will be the biggest upgrade.

+1 on this...UQ then TQ, or just get both and be done.

Without a doubt UQ FIRST !! Sleeping bag works just fine unzipped like a TQ until you can justify a TQ. Pads suck!

I'm one of those guys who doesn't like to stuff the suspension with the hammock. I like to store it separately but, as always, HYOH.

The Wookiee is a little bulky for anything above freezing when a 3/4 length works great. But they do fit excellent and keep the wind off better than the conventional shock corded under quilt.

This would be my advice as well.

Well this is what I ended up buying. Thanks everyone for the input. I can't wait until it gets here.
