Top Quilt Outer Fabric - 15D Ripstop Nylon vs. 20D Polyester

Pulled the trigger before my head exploded.

20D Poly outer, everything else (inner, drawstring, collar) in 15D ripstop.... and threw a superfly in on the side.

The great discount is sure nice, but it still stings a bit now don't it. "Buy once, cry once" I'm hoping. Thanks again for the input, "close-up" look and frame of reference I could relate to.

I went with a 15D outer, 15D inner, and 20D baffles on my Diamondback, and compared to whatever the Multicam is that's offered by Hammockgear (I think it's 20D or 25D?) that is on my UQ, the difference is negligible in my experience. I haven't put the TQ through hell and back yet, but it has held strong in a few rain storms and even a light un-sheltered sprinkling to which I didn't get wet, and more so I didn't notice any permeation into the material.

I would say that there is a pretty big difference in the texture of the fabrics, and I've found myself liking the feel of the heavier stuff a little bit more. With that said, I don't think I'd ever go over 20D now, and with my next quilt purchase (summer 40F) I'll probably try to get it as light as possible.

I did the exact same thing with the MountainFly! I have a SF myself and wanted something a little smaller and easier to pack. They're both extremely solid and I feel much better having my girlfriend sleep in the Super while I get to be nice, cozy and dry in my Mountainfly instead of the old Hennesey Ultralite Asym I'd been packing out for ages... Which is also a good tarp, but a little sketchy for my liking.
