    Broken continuous loops

I have had two continuous loops break on me. Last night it happens while I was in the hammock. I have a hammock gear hammock and I use dutchware beetle buckle suspension. Not sure what is going on and if anyone else has had this problem. Oh, I weigh 215 so that shouldn’t be an issue. Also, without doing any research of my own, does anyone know who make the strongest loops so I can order some replacements. Thanks

Someone else had a similar experience recently so it seems as if there might be a bad batch of CLs "out there"!

There are YT tutorials on how to make your own, if you're so inclined. Very easy project if you've got a bit of amsteel and some florist wire.

I just ordered some 1/8 ones from dutchware. Saw it had a breaking strength of around 500 lbs so hopefully that works. I was afraid to move last night in my hammock, lol

Honestly, I’d contact HG and ask them about this. As mentioned above, this isn’t the first incident.

How did they break? Did they truly break or just come apart/undone? The previous failure was because the splice came undone. I too nearly had this happen on a whoopie sling I purchased because the vendor did not use a locked Brummel on the eye loop. Luckily I learned of a potential issue and caught it before it came loose.

    This is not encouraging.

I had a Hennessy rope break on me once. Didn't drop me to the ground, there was white material inside a sheath that held me after dropping me about a foot. I determined that there was a less than smooth piece of metal that I was hanging from that caused it. I added biners and have had no follow up problems. I am still hanging from HH ropes and other webbing from 13 years ago and it has not dropped me yet. Even including the thin nylon webbing from Claytor in which I have knots form a Bowline and the slipped 1/2 hitch plus some knots to slow down water wicking. Knots are supposed to weaken rope and webbing. I do wonder how much longer it can hold me, it is about 12 years now.

But 2(or is it 3?) bad CLs in a short time makes gets my attention.
