I'm setting up a trekking pole mod for my 11' Superfly and was wondering, if it would be better to use 1/8 shock cord or static cord (2mm glowwire or something). I'm not using a CRL so my poles will rest on the ridgeline. Also how long should the lines be? I intend to have a length of cord with a fixed loop via simple overhand knot on one end, a stopper knot on the other end, and then I'll add prusiks. So, shock vs static? Ideal lengths? Thanks.
This is what I did. All I used was Zingit, but any small cordage will work. I did not use any shock cord. This has worked out very well for me, and is extremely lightweight. It's a small prusik loop larksheaded to the panel pulls, with an adjustable length of cord with a fixed loop at one end to larkshead to the trekking poles. I don't remember how long I made the adjustable lines; but it's super easy to make them longer than needed, then trim to desired length.

I've used both. It doesn't seem to make much difference. I do like a little "give" on tarp connections. But surely there is already so much give it the setup, the extra flex at the panel pulls won't make much difference. And, if I'm adding flex because I think something other than water (and occasional bird poo) will fall on the tarp, I'm probably hanging in the wrong place.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
Just curious, what tarp is that?
I use the same setup and it works well with both purpose-built poles and trekking poles.
