    Welcome from a former Minesooootan! I'll echo what some of the others have mentioned, this hobby can get expensive fast. But it doesn't have to. If you are willing to trade weight for cost you can get started at a reasonable price point. then build from there as you gain experience. I got all my stuff from Amazon and big box stores for under $200. yes, someday I may spring for a "real" underquilt (UQ), but that may be the only cottage vendor piece I use.. so as they say around here, Hany Your Own Hang (HYOH).

    Compared to lots of other hobbies? Not even close. Look into what a high-end bicycle costs; hammock stuff is much cheaper, even if you do your quilts in premium down. Want to see serious sticker shock? Look into what amateur astrophotographers spend. I could go on. Yes, we hangers are slightly-to-moderately crazy, but when it comes to throwing cash around, we are the essence of moderation, unless someone whispers the dreaded words "cuben fiber".
