Definitely a great session... seems like there is an interest in passing out information on proper hanging techniques to people on the trail... while good, I think its also important to make sure we also give the rangers enough information that could help them understand the right techniques so they do not make any blanket policies such as "no hanging anything from trees" because that seems to be a problem in some parks. Implementing rules out of ignorance. Whats being discussed here would be an excellent two pronged approach- the users and the enforcers.

Those are not the only people I want to reach with this idea........there are also the "outfitters" that are selling the products that do not know or have never used the products that they sell. I am working a modified drawing right now I will post it later to see what everyone thinks. I almost have it to where it will fit on half a sheet of standard printer paper.

Great idea - if we could get the manufacturers to include something like this in the box when you got a hammock would be great.
I was fortunate to have found the forums before I bought my hammock but I'm sure a lot of people buy hammocks and don't give a second thought to hanging it up with rope. I certainly would have had a not read about the damage that does on the forum beforehand.

OK here is the modified Dehoja drawing that I have been working on. I have it set-up where it will print on half a sheet of standard printer paper. I had to leave somethings out to make it fit but with the half sheet size other things can be added. I apologize for it being in a "Paint" format(.bmp) but it is the only "photoshop" software that I have on this computer so bear with me please!!!!!!
Please be gentle............

I am thinking there should be something said about not having dead limbs above you, may be obvious to you and me but not so much to someone new to hanging
Perhaps you would you the back side to list out certain notes of wisdom/practice.
i.e. LNT, webbing vs rope usage as it pertains to protecting the tree, dead limbs overhead, etc.
You could include small illustrations such as rope scarring the tree, etc.
If you are hopping to have a positive influence on people making police I would avoid bad practices that cause damage. Instead concentrate on how doing it right protects the environment. No need to plant the incorrect idea that hammock camping will cause damage.
Biggamaguy- You're right- I forgot to add outfitters. make it three pronged!
