    Cumberland Island GA

I go on an Annual Cumberland Island hunt and I have a strategic question.

The location of the campsite has 200 year old huge Oak trees. I haven't tried a hammock there
because the location I usually camp does not have readily available, properly spaced tree's. My question
is what is the best way to accommodate a hammock? May have 30 to 40' between any tree's.

    Thank you for your ideas.

    Sincerely,
    Ohoopee

You'd either need a ladder to get your suspension high enough to hang over that distance or maybe a tree and a pole. If you are car camping your can make a set of turtle stands or there are various self supporting portable stands like this:

That's what I was afraid of. I have been just taking a tent for last 16 years but was hoping I was missing something!! lol.
Can I throw a rope over a limb and loop the end and then tie to the loop?

I've seen that done before as well as long as the limb is close enough to get a strap tight enough to hold and not slip. Couldn't hurt to try.

Just beware of Redbugs or "Chiggers" in the Spanish Moss in those trees. Don't hang across game trails.

16 years of Brickhill. I had some buddies that strung hammock across game trail several years ago.
Horse almost dragged them into marsh. Year 2, do not use moss for toilet paper!! Year 6, do not
sleep too close to water unless you want to see alligators close up. lol)
