    What ropes should i use?

i am trying to design my own hanging system to replace the eagles nest system, which is webbing from tree to hammock. i have nylon webbing for the tree, from there i want to use rope to get to the hammock. What is my lightest/most functional option?

I've had really good luck using 5/32" Spyderline.

On my ENO, I use webbing from the tree to cinch buckles, then Spyderline from the buckle through the hammock end.

Yep the Spyderline 5/32 is some good stuff.

i like vectrus 12 by yale. i use the 3mm. it's 2000 lbs and very light.

look under high tech single braids (i believe) at apsltd.com they have lots of other options as well. lots of people use spectra, but i went with the vectran because it doesn't creep like spectra does (stretch slowly through the night). i also like the single braid over a covered line. they are stronger and lighter, and seem to handle fine.

i use an 8 foot piece at each end. 16 feet weighs 32g/~1.1oz.

I use the amsteel 7/64 on the link above. Minimal stretch after the first use. The stretching on the first use is just the braid tightening up. I have used this for awhile and am pleased with it.

spectra is also called dyneema. spectra is a brand name (dupont i think), dyneema is the same thing, just made by another company.

That is correct. This was discussed in the thread with the link above if someone wants all the technical details.

I have never really experienced any problems with the creep with spectra but all information does say it can creep under continuous load.

What does "creep" mean in this context? Stretch? I've been known to hang around with some creeps from time to time but I'm pretty sure that's not what you're referring to.

creep is when the rope stretches slowly when under constant weight. while nylon for instance will stretch immediatly.

as i understand it, it could slowly stretch through the night. not sure how much stretch/creep occurs though, i just went with the vectran because it was the same strength without the creep characteristics of spectra/dyneema.

Is that the stuff that came with the Warbonnet? If so, I haven't noticed any stretch, or creep over time for that matter, yet.
