I thought about all my tent camps up to Wrightwood and think about 60% of the time could have hung, and that was coincidental without looking since I was in the tent. But I get the sense around the Mojave it could be going to ground a lot?
So few managed a linear thru this year - the Sierras must have been something. When you passed me at the river the next morning after our camp I knew I wouldn’t be seeing you again! You were powering!
    All the best, Ireland.
Ireland! It was great to see you again, man!

I’m not entirely sure I remember the acton and onyx area.

Funny enough a storm right before wrightwood is what convinced me to get my tent; was just so sick of rain and wind under that tarp. If you’re able to sleep somewhat decently on your pad I’d probably just committ to tent life, though you’ll probably see dozens of spots you could have hung. It’s def frustrating but I ended up often just cowboy camping most nights because it was nice to not even worry about it

Congratulations on finishing the PCT!!! It has been even wetter in WA since you finished.

Were you vlogging your trip? I started following a very similar hiker since the Sierras.

I was; I still have lots of video to go through. The last one I think I posted was Crater Lake

    Congrats on the hike again.

Awesome summary of the trail this year. It's cool to read the different experiences other folks have. I'd have to agree there were some nights where the wind was so bad a tarp just didn't cut it. I remember one night so bad I didn't even hang my tarp for fear it would rip apart. The wind in the desert is no joke.

Id say gear choices are often topics of long debates for all long trails. Different things work better for different folks for sure.

Glad the UQ protector worked well for you and thanks for giving it a shot.

All you guys reading this who want to hammock the PCT just do it, worst case you will sleep on the ground but thats the best case when you have a tent.

Happy Trails and catch you on the CDT.

Sorry for the late reply! How heavy was our pack with the slightly extra weight from the ground set up? Since you are experienced with thru hikes I am assuming you are pretty great at counting all of your ounces?

Around 25lbs all in is were I’m comfortable sometimes with a bear can it gets around 30. This is obviously based on how big you are and physical shape. I’m about 165 depending on what buffet I’m walking out of.
