BWDD Four Season Tarp Pole Mod

Here's a few pics of the pole mod I just completed on my Backwoods Daydreamer Four Season tarp. For the pole pockets, I cut the corners off an old WM gear bag I had laying around. These worked great afer I added some grosgrain to the edges and some webbing reinforcement. The pole is from a tent repair kit. It's a little heavy. I plan to test the set up on my Smokies trip next week. If all goes well I'll replace them with the poles 2Q suggests.

    Thanks for viewing.

Good example here also of what happens when you forget to put pre-emergent on your grass in the fall.

Just noticed how bad my lawn looks.

speaking of the PM (pole mod)...I've enjoyed it on a McCat Ultra for a while now but my McCat is in the capable hands of TQ/ZQ getting permanent doors and I'll be backpacking next week....so my WB tarp is pole compatible but no pole to fit. I write Fibraplex and ask if I can expedite a cf pole for the WB tarp...this is on Tuesday. I needed 104 inches, seven sections, normal tips. The pole arrived on Thursday!
Linas is the dude at Fibraplex-very helpful and very quick!

Peg-Leg, use caution with those fiberglass replacement poles. Once they shattered and ripped thru my tent sleeve. These were older fiberglass, but just a word of caution.

Nice mod, by the way. It really opens up the tarp.

MM, how much is custom cut to fit cf pole? are they reasonable?

I like the pole mod and the room amd tautness it provides. I noticed it's done with pockets. Has anyone added rings with a rod of some sort to the center grommets? I noticed this is how some of the poles are secured to tent ends. Only problem is that there is not an existing overhead center tiedown on th inside of my tarp. Do the poles stay in place well without the tiedown? Just thought I'd inquire before I did something to my tarp.

Nice mod Peg-Leg. It looks well done and really opens up the inside. I've done three or four of these custom mods for some other customers (though very differently than this style). Yours looks very well built and should hold up long term. Nice job!

While I still personally prefer the side panel pulls, I do think this pole mod has some pretty serious merit.

    Thanks for the pics!

I had to sew a tie onto the ridgeline. The pole would not stay in place without it.
