+1 for Linville Gorge. It's 3 1/2 hours away, but it's tough to beat the views and variety that the gorge offers. You can camp along the river, along the rim, or lots of places in between. There are places where you can be assured that you are not alone if that is what you are looking for or you could easily be in complete solitude.

Never been there, looks beautiful. Love that part of CA. Growing up, my family camped at Burney Falls for a week every summer. Lassen, Bumpass Hell, Subway Caves, Cinder Cone... cool area.

Beautiful! I need to get my eye candy here on the forums and remind myself of the flat mudhole I live in.

Mt. Chocorua in the White Mountains. This is a very popular hike, but much less so in mid November. The trails on the west side of the mountain are further away from the trailhead and see very little traffic. You can overnight on that side and have the whole trail to yourself. On this particular trip there were no footprints on the west side approach and the snow had been there for at least a week. 0806C550-3765-442C-BD98-BB193CE5F5AD.jpg

My wife and I are fortunate to be able to live here. Love all the scenery that the Lake area has to offer...even in the winter.

That is a gorgeous little peak and we passed it many times while driving up Rt 16 on the way to Pinkham Notch, always saying we've got to hike that mountain some day. Finally got to do it about 20 years ago in the autumn with my sister and brother-in-law. We went up via Champney Falls (? I think?) and it was somewhat busy but thinned out quickly going up. I've got a pic somewhere of my sister rubbing the USGS benchmark for good luck!
