    Marlinspike hitch in Dyneema?

Will a marlinspike hitch slip if tied in Dyneema?

I'm thinking of using a single line of dyneema extending from my tree huggers, and tying a marlinspike in it to connect to the CLs on my hammock. Simple. But will it hold?

    I believe it will hold
Toggle should have smooth ends, in case tarp is wind blown and contacts toggle
I have added an additional wrap to marlin spike hitch before inserting toggle
This could give more friction and resistance to slipping if regular marlin spike hitch was slipping

Not too much risk in trying, other than a little rope damage if it slips under load.
Even with no slip, amsteel could be mashed flat at hitch
    Why knot try it?!?!

After forming marlin spike hitch, I have wrapped the bight around back and up through same place
The bight, since it is doubled, yields two extra coils

    Concur with Phantom.

Funny that I've never actually tried it, however Amsteel-to-Amsteel with J-bend doesn't slip, and if ever it was gunna...!! Also, I formerly used MSH with Zing-it for guy line-to-stake (Ti shepherd hooks) and it also never slipped.

Cmoulder, if amsteel to amsteel J-Bend does not slip, then amsteel MSH on toggle should work too

Doesn’t J-Bend use a MSH variant with continuous loop acting as toggle? One variant is toggle, one with a regular toggle and other with a toggle made by passing continuous loop through MSH to act as toggle, becoming toggle like as hammock is loaded

It’s been a while since I tried to tie a marlin spike hitch and replace toggle with a tightly rolled sock.
If my memory is correct. When hammock loaded, tightly rolled sock would fold in half making more difficult to release. It did work, it held, if my memory holds

Yes, good description you have. J-Bend is MSH with the CL acting as toggle, and then a slipped bight of the MSH tag end thru the CL keeps the CL from pulling back thru the MSH loop. Very clever trick.

LOL I guess MSH with a sock "toggle" would be a good conversation starter!

We have used it a bit on our Tensa stand and it has worked fine.

Should work fine. If you were worried, though, you could always just flip it: splice the amsteel line at the hammock end, and tie the MSH at the treehugger side.
