what about these tie off devices?

Is there a thread where this device has already been discussed? The small ones weigh .9 oz but have a " safe working load" of 250 lbs, although this seems to vary with the size of the rope used. Also, it has a max rope diameter of .25"( .188-.25). I'm not sure what the diameter of stock HH UL Explorer is.

I've got a feeling this has been discussed here before. Because there is also a HH picture at the bottom of the page! Also, there are a couple of hammock use comments posted here, but it doesn't say if they are using the mini or monster:

I've been using the small Hitchcrafts for a couple of months now and they've been great. I'm using them on a HH Expedition with the 1/4 inch spectra and I come in @ 180#. Set up with these is fast and tight and they
stay tight all night. I haven't noticed any weakening of the Hitchcraft or damage to the rope so far.

Yep - hitchcraft is on this forum and has offered up some of these to test. I'll PM the testers and check on progress for the reports.

I've got 4 of the small version - an ingenious deice.

If you use hammock suspension cord smaller than 1/4" pm hitchman, the inventor, and ask him for advice prior to use. He is a member of the forums and knows a lot about their use.

sorry it's taken so long to get around to trying the hitchcraft rope ties.

i tried one on the foot end of my hammock (bedroom) with the biggest rope i had in house.
it measured 1/4" or about 7mm as best i could tell. i don't remember what size it was sold as in the rock climbing section, but it's with in the range of the smallest usable rope size according to the Hitchcraft web site.

it seemed to hold fine at first, but w/ a little movement & rocking, it slipped, once then twice... a total of a couple inches or more.

i re-tightened it & tried it again. same thing.

so i'll get a length of slightly larger rope & try it again.
the rope i used is softer & less stiff than a some of the rope from the climbing section, so that could have had some thing to do w/ it.

another thing that concerned me was that after sitting in the hammock, the rope had to be yanked hard to free it from the plastic teeth.
that causes me to wonder about abrasion over time.
maybe it will be different w/ a larger rope. ...tim
I too will something make and joy in it's making

If you pull on the rope like your tightening it, the rope will slide right out of the teeth as opposed to being stuck in them. I was also concerned with that at first, then I figured out how to release it. I also put a couple of half hitches in after locking the rope in the Hitchcraft just for good measure to prevent any slipage.
