    3rd DIYer

OK, this is now my third DIY hammock and it is by far the best yet. It is a double layer made from 4yds and is 60" wide. Still have a little bit of sewing left on the bugnetting. Thinking of adding some tie-outs since the bugnetting lays pretty close to my head. Haven't tried it with the pad in yet, that may resolve the bugnet near the head issue.

More details to come later, about to head out and try to catch some fish!

I know what your mean. I have made a couple of hammocks 60 inches wide and one was over 10 feet long and they were awesome comfortable. That really looks good.
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.

    is it ripstop?

and 4 yards seems to be the number i like using as well. Both my DIY'ers are 12 feet -- LOTS of room

yes, it is ripstop nylon. But it is definitely heavier than 1.1 oz, but I got it for $1.50 from walmart so I'm not complaining about the weight. Beside, I'm not a gram weeny either--just a space weeny.

It is a double layer heavily modified from Risk's Z-Hammock. One edge I stitched the bug netting between the two layers the complete length. The other side is 2 layers of ripstop with bugnetting sandwiched for about 8" from the channel; then, it is zipper between ripstop and other half of zipper to bugnetting for about 2'; then I have the opening for my pad (zipper to bottom layer); then zipper between ripstop and other half of zipper to bugnetting for the rest of the length; then finished by sandwiching the bugnetting between the layers of ripstop to the foot-end channel. The zipper was a 100" sleeping bag zipper from Joanne's.

In the pic above, I have the zipper partially open. The bugnetting still allows for a fair amount of circulation, but designed it so I could unzip it and throw it over the RL for optimal air flow.

Thanks for the compliment. Had originally wanted something a little more stealth, but couldn't find enough fabric in the right colors for that, so found the grey ripstop and navy bugnetting and knew that would be a winning combination.

Just wont be able to hide in this hammock

Nice. Hammocks with 4yds are awesome, especially for anyone in the 6'+ range. Sounds like a good approach you're using for the bug netting.

    Thoughts please

ok, so I am planning for a new tarp to go along with this hammock. Probably going to be a cat-cut tarp and really like the idea of having the shock-cord pull-outs on the tarp.

My thought is this. What if I designed the tie-outs on my hammock to attach to the inside part of the pull-outs on my tarp. So that the pull-outs on the tarp would also spread my hammock??? I would use shock cord on both so that there isn't a catastrophic failure and big leak in my tarp.

Is this a bad idea that should be thrown to the wayside or should I consider it further??? Input, suggestions???

Mmmm... I'm thinking you might not want anything to interfere with getting the most taut tarp pitch possible--i.e., nothing pulling your tarp in the opposite direction that you've staked it out.

But I'm not sure exactly what you mean with having the shock-cord pull-outs on the tarp... so maybe I'm envisioning this wrong
